Ever think everything about Taylor Swift is just a bit too perfect to be true?
Well, it turns out you’re totally right.
Don’t get us wrong, Taylor is talented, gorgeous, down-to-earth and wildly successful.
But all that business about her growing up on a Christmas tree farm, picking up a guitar one day and immediately making beautiful music? Yeah, like kids with Santa, we think on some level we always knew that was BS.
Taylor’s parents and PR reps stopped just short of saying she rode a unicorn to school when describing her childhood and now the truth is coming out via Taylor’s guitar teacher, Ronald Cremer.
Cremer starts by debunking the story that he met the Swift’s while fixing their computer and was wowed by Taylor’s natural talent:
“I did do computer work for them,” Cremer says “But the computer work came after I started doing guitar work.”
Cremer was already a well-known local musician and producer at the time, and he says he was paid handsomely to mold Taylor into a superstar. But he understands the need for the myth:
“A 36-year-old bald guy taught her [guitar],” Cremer says. “That ain’t gonna sell…The first couple months, I thought it was a joke. I thought, here’s a bunch of rich people…”
9 Surprising Taylor Swift Facts!Yes, the Swift’s were fabulously wealthy even when Taylor was a kid. The Christmas tree story is bunk, and Taylor’s dad made seven figures as an investor at Merrill Lynch.
What’s more Papa Swift was apparently a miserable family man:
“‘I got a wife who doesn’t love me,'” Scott Swift allegedly said to Cremer one night. ‘”I’m trying to help my daughter out and do the right things, but my wife couldn’t care less.'”
Mama Swift may have given him reason to think that. Cremer says Taylor’s mother was an obsessed, borderline abusive stage mom:
He recalls one incident that nearly caused him to quit:
“Her brother Austin, who was a little chubby at the time – he’s not that now – he wanted Taco Bell,” Creme recalls. “Taylor says, ‘I want Taco Bell too. Her mother went out and got Taco Bell, but only gave it to Austin, because she said, ‘Nobody wants to see a fat pop star.'”
So there you have it. No one’s childhood is perfect. Frankly, we think this makes Taylor even more likable. Turns out she’s just one of us humans after all.
