It’s the most popular show in America (at least on the networks) and gossip has swirled around it but nothing really concrete, and I’m just nosy. They keep killing off popular members of the cast, and there’s talk those characters wanted out. And Pauley Perrette says Mark Harmon is a monster. Anyone have any inside info? Is the sexiest man alive (circa 1986) too cute to be a monster?
I don’t know why I’m even interested in this show, I’m on season 15 and it was better than I thought but now it’s getting boring. I just can’t believe they keep killing off their cast and people still watch it.

That came out of the blue.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 5, 2021 4:32 PM |
Isn't Perrette a complete lunatic? She was on the thing for over a decade playing an elderly schoolgirl goth so its not like she was running for the door.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 5, 2021 4:35 PM |
I always suspected Pauley Perrette might be troubled. She said she endured multiple assaults on set. But now, in hindsight, maybe she did and the working situation on the show is toxic.

Yes, Mrs. Harmon joined the show last season in a recurring role as a quirky reporter.
There are still reporters in their 70s?
Anyway, it's obvious that her character and her husband's character will fall in love and she will become a series regular.

Pauley was apparently bothered by Harmon's pit bull, who was allowed free run on set.

Mark Harmon is definitely looking a little rough. He still looked great when the show started, but obviously he’s aged.
R8, that’s it? It just seems her choice of words about being assaulted pointed to something much more serious. Or is she just crazy?

Rumor has it that Harmon's dog bit a crew member and that bite created some health problems for that crew member and Harmon wouldn't acknowledge the role his dog played in harming that person. The battle between Harmon and the crew member went on for a bit and the girl actress was vocal in her defense for the rights of the wronged crew member. Harmon had her fired and eventually the crew member either left or was fired.
Harmon isn't really a monster but he is an entitled prick.

The producers of that show are awesome. R27, I don’t know if I’ve ever heard about Mark Harmon’s politics but it wouldn’t surprise me. On the other hand, I just watched (don’t judge me! I really am under 50) an episode that was very sympathetic to immigrant children who end up in the US only to be sent back. They really throw in liberalism here and there, and I find their portrayal of Muslims isn’t one dimensional. But it’s no doubt a way to appeal to viewers across political lines.

This would be a surprise to no one.
This show, along with various procedurals like CSI and things like Judge Judy, just reinforce the Mean World perception that a lot of deplorables like to live in, the one where everyone's out to get them, nothing is their fault, and they can be an uneducated asshole and never have to be responsible for anything or anyone, especially their own actions.

Mark Harmon, his sister Angie Harmon the "actress" and coke fiend and his other sister (some blonde model whose name escapes me) are all life-long hardcore Rethugs.
In that sense, of course he's a monster. Letting his pitbull run wild, also a shitty thing to do to others. I know nothing about his wife these days but he did have a long-long-long-term mistress living fairly close to his house. He doesn't like to be inconvenienced.

Pauley Perrette could not have had an easier cushier acting role than on NCIS, and she walked away from it. It's like winning the lottery every week. They shoot scenes so fast, usually two or three takes and move on. She would spend more time in hair and makeup than acting, while making hundreds of thousands of dollars in a few hours.

I didn't get his political affiliation online. It goes way back, before he played Ted Bundy (and he played Ted Bundy very well). An ancient People magazine? An equally ancient interview? I don't know, I'm old.

There's not a single thing as R51 said. People just keep saying he is here. (I think there's a chance he might be but he has been silent about it mostly if he is.)
There's evidence that his father was a conservative. There's evidence that he and Pam support gun control.
He also seems quietly proud of his work as Dr. Bobby Caldwell on St. Elsewhere, albeit years later, as his (straight) character was one of the first major characters on a tv series to contract HIV and die of AIDS back in '86. At the time it was considered groundbreaking even if people still thought of it as a "gay man's disease" back then.
[quote]Troian? What a dumb name. Tro ian? Troy uhn? Lame.
Fun fact!
Deborah Pratt, her mother, starred on an episode of Quantum Leap written by her father, Donald Belisario.
That episode was called, "A Portrait for Troian" and in that episode, Deborah played the character ... Troian.
The name is actually a family name from Donald's, mother's side which means, "of Troy" or "women of Troy."

Angie Harmon is NOT Mark's sister! "She was born on August 10, 1972, in Highland Park, Texas, the daughter of Daphne Demar (née Caravageli) and Lawrence Paul "Larry" Harmon, a hospital information network executive in Dallas, Texas. Her father has German and Irish ancestry, while her mother is of Greek descent."
Mark's sister was the actress Kristin Nelson, Kristin was married to the late singer Rick Nelson. "Harmon was born in Burbank, California, the youngest of three children. His parents were Heisman Trophy–winning football player and broadcaster Tom Harmon and actress, model, and artist Elyse Knox (née Elsie Lillian Kornbrath). Harmon had two older sisters, the late actress and painter Kristin Nelson, who was divorced from the late singer Rick Nelson, and actress and model Kelly Harmon, formerly married to car magnate John DeLorean. I'm far from 55, but I've sometimes watched the show when I came across it on TV. Is it good? Not really, the stories are always a bit the same, I never found any of the cast hot and some characters are super annoying. But it's like not very exciting, but well-known comfort food, it's fine to have it running in the background while cooking or doing laundry, you know there won't be any breathtaking or too emotional storylines that will keep you from whatever you're doing, but you're a bit entertained. Basically its blandness is its selling point, if you ask me. I've never seen one of the episodes after Pauley Perrette left though, so can't say if things changed.

There must be dirt to dish or tales of friendly co-workers from the other sets.
Can Barrett Foa really be the ONLY out gay man hired for these productions? Who was he harmonizing on show tunes with during production?

R71 - man, Longmire! A show that was so good until they got rid of Branch (the incredibly sexy Bailey Chase).
The cast was excellent across the board, but I loved seeing Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry. He really had a great role, seemed so comfortable with it. And Gerald McRaney! - his politics aside, that man managed to continue a career DECADES after Simon & Simon, doing a lot good and interesting work. And I think he's essentially taken care of the very fragile Delta Burke for many, many years.

Mark has many skeletons in his closet and bad karma in his extended family. No wonder he's such a bitter man.
Wasn't Mark's sister, Kristin, who was married to singer Ricky Nelson, a hardcore heroin addict? Think she died due to her years of drug use. Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash.
Actress Tracy Nelson, the daughter of Ricky and Kristin Harmon, had her own issues, but they were health related. Tracy survived three types of cancer: Hodgkin's lymphoma, thyroid cancer and breast cancer. Tracy is now 57.
Mark is also related to the pop singers, Matthew and Gunnar Nelson, the twin sons of Ricky Nelson.

Pam and Mark went to court to get guardianship of Kristin's kids due to her drug issues IIRC
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 7, 2021 2:13 PM |
But then they dropped their case because Mark’s sister’s lawyers were going to bring up Pam’s drug history, I think. She probably did a lot of coke with Robin Williams on Mork and Mindy and didn’t want that brought up.
I think Pam and mark were trying to get custody of Mark’s teen nephew, Sam. The kid wanted to live with them, too.

Well, Mark hiding his wife Pam's drug use is a sort of skeleton, he's also obviously extremely ashamed of his late sister Kristin's drug use, especially as she had such a wholesome image. It seems, in Hollywood, performers are also judged by their family members and their associates scandals.
There's fame by association as well as negativity by association. Even if a celebrity is squeaky clean, they still seem to be judged by the people they are related to or are friendly with.

(Ready to go because of Bellisario getting pushed out.)
Her character was only supposed to be there for 6 episodes initially but they kept her on far longer.
Her exit was right up there with Kate's. I mean Kate's exit was a shock. With Lauren's exit, they really killed the ever-loving hell out of her character. They wanted there to be zero chance in anyone's mind that she was DONE.
