Russell Wilson posted the worst season record of his decade-long career last year playing for the Denver Broncos. He went 4-11 in the games he started. However, former Broncos star Melvin Gordon believes that Wilson still has the capability to deliver an MVP season.

In a conversation with Jim Rome, the former running back said, “Yeah, he do” when probed about Russell Wilson having an MVP season left in him. Gordon added that the quarterback has an MVP coach in Sean Payton, which will have a huge impact on his game in the 2023 season.

“I think they got the pieces there now that’s going to put (Wilson) in the best situation,” Gordon said. “What he does this year, it’s on him. But I definitely believe they’ll be a better football team than they were last year.”

Russell Wilson is yet to win a league MVP in his career. But that doesn’t take away the fact that he has been one of the best quarterbacks in all aspects. However, after the debacle of a season last year, there have been major doubts about his capabilities and whether he can make it back to the Super Bowl for a third time.

Sean Payton is an AP Coach of the Year and has won the Super Bowl during his time in New Orleans. Payton did have a future Hall of Fame quarterback, Drew Brees, helping him out. Melvin Gordon believes that the situation in Denver in 2022 “wasn’t good” which hampered Wilson’s performance.

The new Denver Broncos head coach has made a lot of changes since his arrival. Due to that, everyone is hoping that Russell Wilson will go back to his old Pro Bowl self and dominate in the AFC.
