Kyler Murray came back from injury and played eight games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023, winning three games. While the Cardinals are not exactly the most exciting team going into the new season, according to multiple football analysts, Murray claimed the situation in Arizona is much different than what many perceive.

Injuries have limited his time on the field, but he showed enough to the Cardinals front office in his first four years as a starter that they took his fifth-year option, and now he is their franchise quarterback. The Cardinals finished 4-13 last season, but 3 of those wins came against playoff teams.

They defeated the 12-5 Dallas Cowboys, 11-6 Philadelphia Eagles, and 10-7 Pittsburgh Steelers, which hinted at the quality the Cardinals have on the team. With the right balance, they can churn up a good run, but they have the worst odds of winning the Super Bowl from the NFC West, according to ESPN (100-1).

However, Kyler Murray isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet. He wants to prove the doubters wrong because the recruitment his team has done in the off-season and through the draft has made it stronger.

Let them sleep. Our job is to wake them up and allow them to realize what's going on out here.
Kyler Murray told Tiki Barber per CBS Sports

The Cardinals already had a good core of players, starting with Mike Wilson, Greg Dortch, Trey McBride, and James Conner.

A lot of people started to see that last year; we play hard. We play the right way.
Kyler Murray added

Tight end McBride, in particular, had a productive 2023 season. He racked up 81 catches for 825 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Cardinals.

Kyler Murray is excited for Marvin Harrison Jr.

After Larry Fitzgerald retired, the Cardinals brought in a like-for-like replacement in All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Texans. Following the 32-year-old’s exit in 2023, they waited one year to draft Marvin Harrison Jr., arguably the biggest wide receiver prospect since Justin Jefferson.

Harrison did not play in any of the Cardinals’ three pre-season games for various reasons, but the excitement around the rookie is through the roof in Arizona, and Kyler Murray is all up for it. In his view, Harrison moves like a seasoned veteran, not a first-year wideout.

There's certain guys, and I'm sure you've [Tiki Barber] been around a lot of them. They step in day one, and they're not rookies. They don't feel like rookies. They're pro-ready guys. The mental [mentality] that they have, the makeup, the way they carry themselves off the field, in the building, he's catching jugs before or after practice.

The Cardinals have the 16th-hardest NFL schedule in 2024, but if Murray can keep himself fit and connect with Harrison, then teams like the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams better watch out for them.
