How to Get the Shotgun in Alone in the Dark

Sure, Alone in the Dark has puzzles and mystery aplenty. But it also has monsters, and the best way to handle those root-faced freaks is with a two-gauge shotgun and a willingness to let your enemies get right up close and personal.

To unlock the Shotgun in Alone in the Dark, you’ll need three Lagniappes: the Rubber Stamp, the Dog Collar, and the Fountain Pen. Doing so will complete the Lost Children set. And the less we think about the implications of this set, the better.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to complete the set until you’ve visited the hateful mound and returned. But the moment you’ve returned, you’ll have everything you need to get the Shotgun immediately.

To find the Rubber Stamp, head to Reception on the first floor. Move towards the Clerk’s Office door, and you’ll see a window looking in. Beside this window, on the counter, is the Rubber Stamp.

Next, you’ll be able to get the Fountain Pen once you have access to Jeremy Hartwood’s Room on the second floor. But the Fountain Pen is actually in Batiste’s Room. Once you’re inside Batiste’s room, head towards the lamp in the back corner, and you’ll find the fountain pen on a magazine on the side table.

The final item you’ll need is the Dog Collar. The Dog Collar is in the Drawing Room on the first floor, in the side table beneath the window. To get to the Drawing Room, you’ll need to go through the library. You likely encountered this room when getting the Bolt Cutters to get the Broken Plate in the Well.

But when you first encounter the door to the Drawing Room, it’s locked because of a piece of wood wedged beneath it. Once you’ve returned from visiting the hateful mound, you’ll have a Palette Knife, which you can use to open but this door and a door on the third floor.

The shotgun case will automatically unlock in the Small Parlor when you have all three items in the Lost Children set. You just have to claim it! And once the case is open, it remains permanently unlocked for all future playthroughs.

If you’re not yet at the point where you have the palette knife, you don’t have to leave here empty-handed. Why not open the Clerk’s Office safe early for an easy-to-miss lagniappe?
