Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have ended up in a back-and-forth on social media as they discuss Liverpool’s atmosphere at Anfield.

Liverpool were back to winning ways on Wednesday night, absolutely hammering West Ham United in the Carabao Cup.

The Reds were in red-hot form with Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah all scoring alongside a Curtis Jones brace.

Liverpool are now into the semi-finals of the competition and will be delighted to have secured a big win after Sunday’s disappointment against Manchester United.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher continue debate over Liverpool atmosphere

Liverpool were widely expected to destroy United on Sunday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag’s men entered the game off the back of two defeats and were hammered 7-0 at Anfield last season.

Few were giving United a chance but they managed to battle their way to a 0-0 draw as Liverpool failed to find a breakthrough.

Gary Neville suggested after the game that the Anfield atmosphere was a problem, believing that he has never experienced Anfield ‘so quiet’ in a game against United.

Liverpool fans weren’t happy with those comments but Jurgen Klopp has now complained after Wednesday’s win.

Klopp suggested that fans who aren’t prepared to generate a great atmosphere should give their ticket to other fans, feeling that Anfield was flat again in last night’s 5-1 victory.

Neville has jumped on those comments, suggesting that the Liverpool fans who were slamming him just a few days ago are very quiet now.

Jamie Carragher has now offered his response too, suggesting that Klopp is playing ‘mind games’ and seemingly trying to create a huge atmosphere against Arsenal this weekend.

Carragher added that the atmosphere against West Ham was ‘absolutely fine’ and that Klopp understands the ‘power’ of the Anfield crowd.

Carragher also poked fun at United, suggesting that the atmosphere on Sunday was poor because Liverpool were expected to beat a team who are ‘so bad’.

Home atmospheres do tend to be a little quieter at times and Liverpool fans will point to cold weather and cup games as explanations here.

We are sure that Anfield will be rocking against Arsenal this weekend – and it may need to be against the Premier League leaders.
