The fog has been persistent for much of the Treasure Valley through the day today. For Mountain Valley locations, the fog did burn off with daytime heating, we were able to see a little bit of sunshine before sunset this evening.

Tonight, areas of dense fog will thicken once again, taking visibility down to less than 1/2 of a mile and with our temperatures down below freezing (today's daytime high for the Treasure Valley only reached 32 degrees) we are also seeing freezing fog roll in.

Freezing fog means that roads, driveways and walkways will all be very slick! This will be the case for your Monday morning commute. Use caution with reduced visibilities and slick roads and give yourself plenty of time to travel as well as room between you and the can in front of you.

Meanwhile, those in our mountain valleys and the Magic Valley saw mostly sunny skies today as a large area of high pressure is overhead. Overnight lows tonight will be a few degrees colder than last night, and continue to cool further overnight Monday.

This means we have a chance for this fog sticking around for much of the day tomorrow and burning off with late afternoon warming. This is also causing a fog inversion which will cause high temperatures to be relatively close for bothmountain valleys and Treasure Valley locations. For Monday, expect highs in the low to mid 30s across Southwestern Idaho for Monday.

A storm system is tracking to our south tomorrow, and maybe bring some light snow to the Idaho-Nevada border, less than an inch is anticipated. For Southwestern Idaho and Eastern Oregon, this will mean increased cloud cover with a mix of sun and clouds.

We will hopefully have more sunshine on Tuesday afternoon, after morning fog breaks apart. Lows will be around 20 in the early morning hours, and highs in the low to mid 30s through the middle of the week.

Our next weathermaker rolls in late Wednesday for our mountains as a trough will move in, bringing light snow showers to the region.

The snow will fill into the Treasure Valley overnight Wednesday, into Thursday morning. Meaning a slick New Years Eve morning but valley accumulations will be light, right now we are anticipating less than 2" for all valley locations and for our higher peaks and ski resorts we could see up to 6" max. And with our current snowpack, that moisture though it won't pack a punch, will help build our overall snow pack.

New Year's Day will be partly cloudy, with highs in the upper 30s. The day will be quiet, before another round of weather pushes in for the weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday bring a chance of showers, but with high temperatures in the low 40s, it looks like the weekend could bring a rain/snow mix to our lowest valleys including the Treasure Valley. Stay tuned!

If you snap a great weather photo, send it our way!
