NFL DFS Showdown DraftKings Picks and Sleepers — Jets vs. Dolphins

We have a very rare Friday game on tap this week. The NFL probably envisioned this game being an important divisional battle between and , but unfortunately, that’s not what they are getting. The Jets have apparently seen enough of (finally!) and will have under center. I’m not sure this tips the scale one way or the other, as the Dolphins were going to be a large favorite regardless. Miami is listed as a 10-point favorite in a game that features a total of 41 points.

New York Jets Preview

The Jets offense can’t get any worse with Boyle under center. You might think I’m being sarcastic, but they have only scored 6 offensive touchdowns all season. The Dolphins have scored more than that in a single game. Boyle has only made 3 starts and 18 total appearances in his career. He hasn’t flashed much in his opportunities and has only averaged 5.1 yards per attempt. The good news is that the Jets have some good solid weapons around him and that the Dolphins aren’t all that tough against the pass or against quarterbacks. Boyle is not a must, and I won’t be looking his way at MVP or Captain, but he’s cheap enough to be a solid FLEX option.

The hard part with a new quarterback under center is that we don’t know who his favorite target is going to be. That said, all of New York’s wideouts have to feel like their outlook has improved with someone other than Wilson throwing them the ball. , , and will play in 3-receiver sets. Wilson has the highest ceiling of the three, while Gipson is far too cheap on DraftKings ($800). For the time being, I will continue to be underweight on Lazard. Boyle could lean heavily on his trusted tight end here, which makes a solid value play for showdown.

It will be interesting to see how often the Jets decide to air it out in this one. They will want to run the ball as often as possible, but could be trailing by a large margin. Either way, we can expect a heavy dose of against the Dolphins, who are ranked 22nd in DVOA against the run and 27th in rush EPA. Even if the Jets are forced to throw it more than they would like, Hall should be heavily involved in the passing game. He’s had 5 or more receptions in 3 of the last 5 games and will be a safety valve for Boyle. has not been effective, so if targeting a cheap running back here, I would side with .

The Jets defense is good, but they don’t get much help from their offense. To make matters worse, the Dolphins get the ball out as quickly as any team in the league. This is why they have allowed the lowest pressure rate in the NFL. Perhaps they can get a turnover or two, but I’m not too excited about their prospects. The same goes for , as the Jets may not have the option to settle for field goals.

Miami Dolphins Preview

The final score of last week’s game was not indicative of how the game played out. The Dolphins dominated the Raiders, but couldn’t score touchdowns and turned the ball over in bad spots. Make no mistake about it, this is still one of the best offenses in the NFL. doesn’t offer much upside, but is always capable of throwing for 300+ yards and multiple scores. The only issue is that when he has a big game, at least one of his wideouts has a bigger game. I’m not saying you can’t use Tua at MVP or Captain, but I do prefer using his weapons in those spots. With that said, I don’t plan on building a lineup that doesn’t have Tua in it in some capacity.

= good at football. He has averaged a ridiculous 25 fantasy points per game and has topped 30 fantasy points in half of his games this season. We all know that Sauce Gardner is a good cornerback, but he won’t be able to stay with Hill in one-on-one coverage. I highly doubt the Jets use Gardner in shadow coverage here. Either way, we should have no issue targeting Hill at MVP and Captain. hasn’t shown as much of a ceiling this season, but he does have double-digit fantasy points in 6 of 9 games. He can be used as leverage off of Hill or as a double stack with Tua and Hill.

We can usually avoid the rest of Miami’s wideouts on full slates, but this is showdown. Perhaps we can find a diamond in the rough. has seen 9 targets over the last 2 games and is only $2,600 on DraftKings. and are expected to be active for this game and can be added to your MME player pool (albeit at low exposure). is currently listed as questionable. If he’s unable to suit up, and will split tight end duties. They are both priced at the stone minimum ($200) on DraftKings.

The big situation to monitor on this slate is the availability of De’Von Achane. He was finally able to return to the lineup last week, but left the game early with a knee injury. He was able to practice on a limited basis this week and is officially listed as questionable. If active, I have no idea how many will be willing to play him after last week. I would treat him as one of the top tournament plays on the slate. If he’s out, and will split the running back touches. has already been ruled out, so we could see a lot of touches for both Mostert and Wilson. Playing both in the same lineup is a very viable strategy, especially on DraftKings.

The Dolphins defense isn’t great, but they are getting healthy and facing . Enough said. Kicker Jason Sanders has only made more than 1 field goal in 2 games all season. He’s still an option, but I don’t love the kickers as much as most showdown slates.

Lineup Construction Thoughts

The easiest and most likely build is a Dolphins onslaught where you bring it back with or one of the pass catchers on the Jets. Even though it will be popular, that is by far my favorite build. I don’t have a ton of faith in and company. With that said, I will be using SimLabs to see if the onslaught projects well in the specific contest types that I am looking to join.

Fantasy Sleepers

: $9,600 DK / $10,000 FD

Here’s how I envision lineup building for most DFS players — they start with Tua and Tyreek, they load up on Miami’s running backs (if Achane is out), and then they look for a player to roster on the Jets. At his current price point (especially on DraftKings), it’s really hard to see Waddle being the chalk. He hasn’t had those huge yardage games that we saw last season, but he has some positive touchdown regression coming and is still the number two option on an explosive offense.

Jets vs. Dolphins Player Pick’em

more than 75.5 receiving yards (1.78x) – Sleeper

At the time of writing this, it’s the 4th quarter in the Seahawks-Niners game. I’m going to assume that got one more catch to keep our pick ‘em hot streak alive (update: of course he got it). We don’t have any running back projections available for Miami since we are waiting on De’Vone Achane, so I’ll side with to get more than 75.5 receiving yards. I’m not worried about Sauce Gardner or the pass rush for the Jets. Hill has double-digit targets in 5 straight games and has topped 80 receiving yards in 7 of 10 games this season.
