BTS's J-Hope is known for quietly doing good deeds, such as donating, without making public announcements. Just recently, he along with the other BTS members donated $1 million USD to support staff from the live-performance industry during the COVID-19, as the pandemic has caused them to be unable to work. BTS's fanbase, the ARMYs, is also known for following BTS's lead and donating to the same organizations as the group, as well as donating to other movements they feel the boys will support.
Lee Ji Hoon, the chariman of the Green Umbrella Child Fund Korea, expressed his thanks to J-Hope, saying, "I would like to share my deep gratitude to J-Hope, a member of the global boy group BTS, for keeping in mind the children suffering through financial difficulties and making a donation. In response to his precious wishes, the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation will do its best to support children in need."

In 2018, J-Hope released his first solo mixtape, "Hope World", with the title track "Daydream". The mixtape peaked at number 38 on the Billboard 200, making him the highest-charting Korean soloist at the time. It had also peaked at number 35 on the Canadian Albums chart and at number 19 at the US Top Rap Albums chart. Three tracks off of the mixtape, "Daydream", "Hope World" and "Hangsang" charted at numbers 3, 16, and 24 on the World Digital Songs Chart respectively. Those tracks would end up peaking at numbers 1, 6, and 11 the following week. That same week, three other songs from the mixtape entered the charts: "Airplane", "Base Line" and "P.O.P (Piece of Peace) pt.1" charted at number 5, 6, and 12 respectively. This made K-Hope one of only ten Korean acts to chart at number one. His solo debut also led him to chart at number 3 on the Emerging Artists Chart and peak at number 91 on the Artist 100 Chart.
In 2019, he collaborated with American singer Becky G for the song "Chicken Noodle Soup", which debuted at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Chicken Noodle Soup" debuted at number one on the World Digital Songs chart.
