SCOTLAND (CelebrityAccess) – Alan Longmuir, founding bass player of Scottish pop sensation the Bay City Rollers, has passed away at the age of 70.

Longmuir formed the Edinburgh group, which sold more than 100 million albums throughout the course of its career, back in 1966. In the years that followed, the band scored two No. 1s in the UK with “Bye Bye Baby” and “Give a Little Love,” both from 1975, as well as three Top 10s in the U.S., including a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Saturday Night” in 1976.

Longmuir, who reportedly died at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, Scotland, recently became ill while on a vacation in Mexico.

The band confirmed his passing this morning (July 2) in a post on social media.
