Austin Rivers is going through his Noah Lyles phase. After JJ Watt, the former Minnesota Timberwolves player was hammered by retired Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones.
During the recent episode of FOX Sports 1’s The Speak, Jones fired back at comments made by Rivers, claiming that while NBA players can easily play in the NFL, football players can’t when the roles are reversed. One of the main targets for former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers had a befitting reply to this.
Number one, they put in a flop rule in the NBA because you guys are soft. You guys started a trend of rest games; [that's what you all started]. Now, you all want extra votes and all that type of stuff to win MVP because you only played 22 games out of 82.James Jones said
Jones further added that the NFL is a much harder league compared to the NBA. He outlined that whatever someone sees on television, it’s much more complicated on the gridiron.
Put respect on our sport. It's not just run and catch the ball, and turn around. It ain't just handing the ball off and doing that. It takes a lot of work on your craft to do what we do on a football field.James Jones added
The 40-year-old’s words do have some merit in them. Football is much more of a team game compared to basketball, in which one or two players can dominate.
James Jones claimed Austin Rivers couldn’t play in the NFL
After graduating from Duke, Rivers was picked up by the New Orleans Pelicans. However, he never managed to secure a starting spot and bounced around from the LA Clippers to the Denver Nuggets, eventually landing in Minnesota in 2022.
Only nine months later, the Timberwolves suspended him following an altercation with the Orlando Magic’s Mo Bamba. Since then, Rivers has been unemployed, but Jones claimed he should forget about switching to football.
Austin Rivers If you stepped on a football field, homeboy, you wouldn't make it. We know that right now because you barely made it in the NBA. [I'm just keeping it a buck]. Football is not an easy game.James Jones said
It began with the Houston Texans Ring of Honor, JJ Watt. After Rivers made the statement, the retired pass rusher reminded him on social media that he was jobless. Watt, on the other hand, would make a comeback if DeMeco Ryans needed him.
