This year has been so hectic, as we all know, working hard on my Macaroni Kid website, a toddler to entertain and with my daughter virtual learning transitioning to in-person, it felt like we have been on the run since COVID started. With some random fall days off, I wanted to plan a little getaway where we could have fun, spend time together and maximize the small break from our daily home responsibilities!
Since our pool has been to cold too swim, the kids have been begging to go to an indoor water park. I knew a night at Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale would be the perfect destination to kick-off our fall break plans! Additionally, Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale introduced its new Paw Program, a company-wide initiative focused on keeping families healthy and safe while we playing together at the indoor waterpark resort, and developed based on guidance from health authorities and public officials. For a limited time, our sister site, CertifiKID, is offering Up to 30% Off a Great Wolf Lodge Overnight Stay!
Attractions and Activities
Indoor Waterpark
It’s always nice and warm in the Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale Indoor Waterpark, and there are activities for all ages and thrill levels. This local resort has several water features, play areas for toddlers, slides families can ride together, an awesome wave pool, and so much more. Having been to an indoor water park, I knew the water and the park was warm enough. I can say it felt tropical (both temperature and humidity) and the water attractions were perfect.
My daughter particularly enjoyed the thrill rides. Some rides had a height requirement of 48”, so sadly my baby boy will have to wait to ride those, but my daughter and I rode everything else, which was a big bonus! There are several water rides – one where you sit in a big round 4-person float, and others where you can ride a double or single tube. Some of the water tunnels actually snake outside the building, which is pretty neat!
Outdoor Pool Area
Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale also offers an outdoor pool area, called Raccoon Lagoon, is where we enjoyed the outdoor paradise of an all-around three-foot, six-inch deep water play area, with fountains and plenty of poolside seating for soaking in the Arizona sun.
MagiQuest
We purchased the wands and joined the MagiQuest fun! MagiQuest is an interactive adventure that takes place throughout the lodge. Guests can purchase a wand that activates a variety of portals, as they go on scavenger hunt type quests. There are missions to complete and activities at each portal. My kids absolutely LOVE playing this game and had a blast running around the lodge looking for the clues. It was a game both my kids enjoyed the entire time we were there. It was nice to see both my kids ages 2 years old and 9 years enjoy an activity together and play endless hours on. My 2 year old had no clue how to play the game, but still loved waving the wand to the objects and marveling as they made a sound or light up.
Other Activities
You go to Great Wolf Lodge for the awesome, indoor water park. The water park is open each night until 8pm, and you all know how kids are – they can play in water for days. But seriously, even the most water-loving family will want to explore some of the dry activities as well. One of the best things about Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale is that there is so much to do outside of the waterpark. The kids definitely were not bored!
Holiday and Seasonal Events at Great Wolf Lodge
Howl-O-Ween
Howl-O-Ween is a super fun time to visit Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale, especially for a fall break staycation or throughout the month of October. We enjoyed the Spooktacular Story Time, a Monster Bash Dance Party, and other Halloween activities. The best part, though, has to be the Trick-or-Treat Trail! Who doesn’t love an extra chance to dress up and get candy? My little ninja and and Adams Family Wednesday truly enjoyed the treats and the Monster Bash Dance.
We had an amazing time at Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale and you can too!

Great Wolf Lodge Tips for Booking Your Stay
- Once you’ve booked your Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale stay, take a look at the events calendar. There are so many activities from which to choose, but will your family just prefer to stay in the waterpark from open to close?
- Similarly, find out which attractions interest your family most and fit in your stay. Will you play mini golf or go bowling? Are you going to load money on a pass for the arcade? Will you buy a wand and participate in the MagiQuest interactive games? Those can be very fun, but consider the length of your trip. It doesn’t necessarily make sense to spend a premium on a hotel that includes a water park if you won’t be using it, or justify the cost based on additional activities that are available, if you won’t be participating.
- Plan your visit with the super useful Great Wolf Lodge Scottsdale website. Select your specific location to access the events calendar, height requirements, specials and packages, and even a planning guide based on your child’s age.
- Book the lowest category of room that you need. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep.
- If you are going to opt for some of the paid attractions, be sure to look at the Paw Pass, Pup Pass, and Wolf Pass options. These pre-paid packages provide substantial discounts on some of the things you might pay for anyway.
- Sign up for their email promotions - know that after your visit they will send you promotions to come back.
- HAVE A GREAT TIME!
