Spirit Mountain Invites Young Adventurers to Hit the Trails 

With Summer Mountain Bike & Adventure Camps

 Parents looking for an action-packed outdoor adventure camp for their children, need to look no further than Spirit Mountain in Duluth.  Consistently ranked as “One of the Top Five Bike Parks in the Midwest,” Spirit Mountain’s 2018 summer mountain bike camps offer a true outdoors infused alternative to traditional summer day camps.  From adventure camps with outdoor games and activities to mountain bike specific camps designed to challenge the avid mountain bike enthusiasts, there is a program for all ages and interest levels.  Spirit Mountain camps provide young campers a chance to improve their skills, gain confidence and have fun in a safe and friendly environment.

The following is a sample of the camp programs offered in July at Spirit Mountain, based on age, and skill level:

Adventure Camp:  Ages 6 to 12

  • Session One:  July 9 through July 13, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Session Two:  July 23 through July 27, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Cost:  $185 per camper, per week

This week-long camp will take adventurers on a fun-filled journey exploring the great outdoors at Spirit Mountain.  The base of Spirit Mountain is intertwined with the forest and the field and leaves ample room for every camper to enjoy!  Campers will enjoy the traditional camp games such as dodgeball and capture the flag and also take hikes along the Superior Hiking Trail and to Knowlton Creek.  Adventure campers will also have the opportunity to enjoy fort building, nature crafts, and the Adventure Park, which includes the Alpine Coaster, Zip Line, Mini Golf, and Jumping Pillow.

Lil Rippers Mountain Bike Camp:  Ages 6 to 9

  • Session One:  July 9 through 11, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Session Two:  July 25 through 27, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Cost:  $109 per camper, per week

A camp waiting for those children who are ready to rip!  Campers must have advanced beyond training wheels and be comfortable riding on varying terrain.  Campers will spend each day of this camp being introduced to the basics of mountain biking.  Proper stance will be demonstrated and taught to these young riders to give them the proper foundation for a lifetime of biking.  The flat ground progression area outside of the Grand Avenue Chalet, Pump Track, Skills Park, and the Duluth Traverse will be the stomping ground for these Lil Rippers to grow!

Strider Bike Camp, Ages 2 to 5

  • Four-Week Camp:  July 12, 19, 26 and Aug. 2, 10:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
  • Cost:  $75 for camp or $150 for camp and purchase of a Strider bike

Our youngest of riders have possibilities that were not available when we were children.  The Strider Camp will introduce young children to the fundamentals of riding a bicycle.  This balance bike teaching works on just that… a child’s balance!  This camp has two options.  Parents can either bring their own balance bike and register for the camp at $75 or pre-register for the camp at $75 with the option of purchasing a Strider bike and the camp for $150. There will be a strider course and awards given out on day 4 of the Strider Camp.

Beginner Mountain Bike Camp, Ages 9 to 15

  • Session One:  July 16 through 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Session Two:  July 30 through August 3, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Cost:  $229

The Beginner Mountain Bike Camper is one who is comfortable on their bike and is ready to take it off the road and onto the dirt.  Skills will be introduced and taught on the flat ground and reinforced in the Skills Park.  This camp then will progress their riding onto the newly constructed section of the Duluth Traverse.  All of these areas will allow your camper to grow to be introduced to the greater trail system at Spirit Mountain!  The Beginner Mountain Bike Camp will have a weekly trip to the Adventure Park to enjoy the Alpine Coaster, Mini Golf, Zip Line, and Jumping Pillow and will also utilize the lift accessed trails on Friday of each week.

Intermediate Mountain Bike Camp, Ages 9 to 15

  • Session One:  July 16 through 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Session Two:  July 30 through August 3, 10 a.m. -4 p.m.
  • Cost:  $229

The Intermediate Mountain Biking Camp is for those riders who have been on the trail in the past and are ready to refine their skills.  The fundamentals will be taught and reinforced to ensure each camper has the correct grasp on biking from the basics.  This camp will utilize the Skills Park, the newly constructed section of the Duluth Traverse and the downhill trail system will be the primary learning areas.  The intermediate camp will venture to more areas and look at correctly reading lines throughout the trails and have an introduction to rocks and a greater variety of technical skills.

The Intermediate Mountain Bike Camp will have a weekly trip to the Adventure Park to enjoy the Alpine Coaster, Mini Golf, Zip Line, and Jumping Pillow and will also utilize the lift accessed trails on Friday of each week.

Intermediate Downhill Mountain Biking Two-Day Camp, Ages 9 to 15

  • Session One:  July 13 through July 14, on Friday, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Session Two:  July 27 through 28, on Friday, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Cost:  $160

Campers for this camp have already been introduced to downhill riding and are ready to step it up to the next level.  This camp is highly focused online reading, rock gardens and proper speed control through every berm, over rollers and into jumps.  Warm up laps will be taken in the Skills Park and the downhill trails will be the primary learning area with Smorgasbord, the blue level trail, will be the goal to run top to bottom through the days.

Timber Twister

Zip Line

Enjoy a ride on our Timber Flyer zip line.  Unlike a traditional zip line, you can ride single or double on a bench-style seat secured with safety belts.  The Flyer takes you zipping through tree tops for 700 feet!  At the bottom, the zip line pulls you back to the top.  Round trip takes approximately 90 seconds.  For ages 3 and up.  Rules To Ride

Scenic Chairlift Rides

The Spirit Express II isn't just for winter and mountain biking recreation.  Now anyone can ride on our chairlift and enjoy the beautiful scenery in Duluth, St. Louis River, and Lake Superior.  A single ride ticket gets you a round trip ride and can be purchased at the Adventure Park or Grand Avenue Chalet.  Discover, Relax and Enjoy.  For ages 3 and up.

Jumping Pillow

Our newest attraction that will take you to new heights.  Our Original Jumping Pillow is the perfect spot for anyone ages 2 and up to enjoy.  Jump, bounce and have a great time on this inflatable attraction.  Featuring special pricing for parents and toddler add-on.

Mini Golf

Our 9-hole mini golf course is perfect for the whole family.  This unique course designed by nationally-renowned local architect, David Salmela, is something anyone can enjoy regardless of age or ability!  Created with Loll Designs materials.

Disc Golf

The Spirit Mountain Disc Golf Course is located at our Grand Avenue Chalet, 8551 Grand Avenue, Duluth MN.  Our 18 hole course is accessed via the Superior Hiking Trail and begins at the base of the ski hill.  Wind your way through forest, trails and onto the open terrain.  The distances are reachable for all abilities, yet tough enough to challenge the experienced player.  Our course is open daily, dawn until dusk. The course fee is $6 per person.  Stop in at the Grand Avenue Chalet to pay the course fee and on days when the chalet is not open, please use the honor box.

Disc rental is available when our Grand Avenue Chalet is in operation, which is typically Thursday thru Sunday during "peak" season.  Cost for rental is $5 with a $10 deposit required.  The full deposit is returned when discs are returned.

Disc Golf is included in the Adventure Park tickets or wristbands.

Superior Hiking Trail
You will find trail heads at both the Skyline & Grand Ave Chalet at Spirit Mountain for the Superior Hiking Trail.  Parking is in the Main Chalet Parking Lot A, by the Team Duluth Alpine Building.  Details can be found HERE
